Hull City are moving with clear purpose in the transfer market, having reached an agreement in principle with Eintracht Frankfurt for French winger Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, according to GFFN and Fabrizio Romano. The 21-year-old now faces a decision that could shape the club's Premier League campaign.
Bahoya is not short of suitors, with Everton also linked, but Hull have positioned themselves at the front of the queue. For a promoted club, acting decisively in the transfer window is essential, and this move demonstrates exactly that kind of intent.
What Jean-Mattéo Bahoya Brings to the Squad
Primarily a left winger, Bahoya offers the positional flexibility that modern Premier League squads require. He can operate across the front line, providing options for a team that will need to adapt to the demands of top-flight football. For a promoted side, versatility is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
His statistics tell a story of steady development rather than explosive output. After joining Frankfurt from Angers in January 2024 for €8m, he made 33 appearances in his first full season, scoring three goals and adding four assists. In 2025-26, he featured 37 times with four goals and four assists. These numbers suggest a player who is trusted by coaches and available when needed, qualities that should not be underestimated.
A Transfer Built on Long-Term Thinking
There is a broader logic to this deal that goes beyond immediate impact. Bahoya is under contract until 2029, meaning Hull are not chasing a distressed sale or a player on the fringes of the game. They are targeting a young footballer with strong academy grounding at Angers and international recognition through France's youth sides.
His five appearances for France Under-21s, with two goals and four assists, reinforce the picture of a player with genuine upside. Hull are clearly looking for talent that can grow in value while contributing immediately, which is how smart clubs operate after promotion.
Decision Time for Bahoya
Now the matter rests with the player. If Bahoya accepts, Hull will have secured a forward with pace, versatility and experience in a top European league. For a club preparing for the rigours of the Premier League, that would represent very solid business.
Our View: Ambition Over Caution
This is exactly the sort of report that should give supporters confidence. The fear after promotion is always that a club will shop small, play it safe and hope for the best. This does not feel like that. This feels ambitious.
Bahoya is young, quick, technical and already tested at a good level. The goal numbers do not jump off the page, but that is not the whole story. Players coming from strong leagues often need the right platform, and Hull could offer that. If the coaching staff believe they can unlock more from him, that is good enough for us.
What is encouraging is that Hull have acted decisively. An agreement in principle with Frankfurt is not a rumour thrown around for clicks, it suggests real work has been done. The club are not hanging around, and that is what promoted sides need to do. Wait too long and the better options disappear.
There is also something refreshing about targeting a player with resale potential. Hull should want more than survival. They should want to build a squad that can compete, improve and hold value. Bahoya fits that idea perfectly. If he chooses Hull over other interest, supporters will take that as a statement. After promotion, statement signings are exactly what we want to see.
